Feeding Hungry Stomachs and Hungry Hearts
The Twin Cities Clubs Answer the Call to Help
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities
According to a national report, an estimated one in 10 children in Minnesota live in poverty, and one in three qualifies for free and reduced lunches. In an effort to address this problem, the Twin Cities Clubs work with Second Harvest to feed hungry families. The Clubs also orient their activities to feed the hunger families and youth have to connect with one another.
The East Side Unit offers movie nights with free screenings of popular movies, so that families and other members of the community can come together in a fun, safe setting. Fun is often a casualty for families struggling to make ends meet. By hosting popular, family-themed movies, the Club helps provide families a welcome break from the stress. The movies also often spark family discussions that help parents and youth get to know each other better.
By feeding stomachs and hearts, the Twin Cities Clubs are strengthening families and buffering them against the hardships they face on a daily basis.
