What Is Character?
Character, as defined by Boys & Girls Clubs of America, is revealed in the way one behaves when no one is looking. Some important character traits are:

• Trustworthiness: A person who is trustworthy is honest, tells the truth and is sincere, has integrity, stands up for beliefs about right and wrong, keeps promises and honors commitments.
• Respect: A person who is respectful is courteous and polite, is tolerant, appreciative and accepting of individual differences and does not demean or mistreat anyone.
• Responsibility: A person who is responsible is accountable, considers the consequences of his actions, pursues excellences, does the best he can, has self-control and is disciplined.
• Fairness and Justice: A person who is fair and just treats all people fairly, is open-minded, listens to others and tries to understand what they are saying and feeling.
• Caring: A person who is caring shows he cares about others through kindness, caring, sharing and compassion, helps others and is charitable and is not selfish.
• Citizenship: A good citizen obeys the laws and respects authority, protects his neighbors and community, protects the environment and conserves natural resources.

There is a simple Club motto that summarizes the guiding principles of a person of good character: knowing the good, loving the good and doing the good.
