Family PLUS Initiative
The Family PLUS Web site is part of the Family Plus Initiative, which is funded by a generous grant from Kimberly-Clark Corporation. The mission of Family PLUS is to help Clubs collaborate with families and caregivers as partners in the development of children and youth. Clubs work with parents and caregivers, connecting them with community agencies and other groups that can meet their needs and help strengthen their families.
Parent Support Programs
As part of the Family PLUS Initiative, many Clubs offer ongoing parent support groups to help parents and caregivers address specific parenting issues and concerns. Topics addressed in the groups include:
- Parenting strategies
- Empowering parents
- Monitoring teen and adolescent behaviors
- Strengthening the family
- Building a social network
Check with your local Club to find out more about ongoing parent support groups in your area.
Family Advocacy Network (FAN) Clubs
FAN Clubs are parent support groups that are integrated with the SMART Moves program. Because these programs deal with drug and alcohol use, premature sexual activity, health/fitness and self-esteem enhancement, FAN Clubs provide a way for parents to share and learn strategies for reinforcing at home the positive messages their teens hear at the Club. Ask at your local Club about participating in a FAN Club.
